1. Tickets and Ground Transport


You will receive a round trip e-ticket from the BecA-ILRI Hub for your travel to Nairobi and back to your home country. Please note that you need to confirm your route and travel dates in good time. Any change made after confirmation will incur additional fees at the participants’ expense.
You will be met upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Charleston Travel and will be taken to the hotel, the PrideInn Suites.
Charleston drivers will be carrying a board/placard that displays the Charleston Logo and will have your name and/or the initial ILRI on it. They already have your itineraries, so they are aware of your arrivals.

Vaccinations: All travelers must have a yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before travelling to Kenya; ensure to have your vaccination certificate with you.

3. Accommodation


As indicated on the invitation letter, we shall cater for your accommodation. You have been booked at the PrideInn Lantana Suites - www.prideinn.co.ke Situated on Waiyaki way.
You are on half board booking (bed, Breakfast and dinner) for the weekdays and on full board for the weekend that you will be in Nairobi.
The accommodation will be paid directly by the BecA Hub. Extra services (such as room service, laundry, phone calls) will not be covered by the BecA Hub and must be settled by the participant before departure after the workshop.

4. Meals


The tea/coffee breaks and lunches will be provided at ILRI at a room to be announced during the meeting.
The DINNERS will be catered for at the hotel. This will be a buffet meal served with a soft drink. Upon check-in at the hotel please confirm the timings for the dinners.

5. Meeting Room


The workshop will take place at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Headquarters. ILRI is located about 20 minutes driving distance from the hotel. An ILRI van will pick participants daily and drop them at the hotel after the day’s program in the evening.
The pickup and drop off timing will be communicated as the programme develops. But on the 1st day, Monday 18th August, you will be picked up at 7:15am.

6. Bankinig


The currency in Kenya is Shillings. ILRI hosts a local bank within its campus and can offer general banking services as well as foreign excahange at local market rates

7. Incidentals


Fully funded workshop participants from visa paying countries will receive an incidental amount of $150 to cover visa cost, ground transportation and en-route incidentals within their respective countries. Participants from non-visa paying countries will receive an incidental amount of $100 to cover ground transportation and en-route incidentals in their respective countries.

NB: Kindly note that you will be required to submit your visa receipt (where applicable) and boarding pass. Please keep them safely. Incidentals will only be paid upon submission of these documents.

8. Medical


We DO NOT have a medical doctor stationed within the campus. Please contact Jacqueline in case you are in need of medical attention. However, you are highly advised to carry you’re a good supply of your prescribed medications inorder to avoid interruptions during the workshop.

9. Security


Like many other cities in the world, Nairobi has its own share of personal security problems and you are advised to take the necessary precautions to avoid being the victim of crime:
➢ Incase you wish to leave the hotel, leave your valuables behind and only carry small amounts of money
➢ Ignore strangers accosting you in the streets
➢ Be careful when using credit cards
➢ Only use recognized taxi services (This can be arranged from the ILRI security desk or through the hotel reception – at your own cost).
➢ Don’t walk alone at night
➢ It is advisable that you carry your laptops as hand luggage and have it within your view.

Be cautious and alert at all times and remember security starts with you.

10. Weather and communication


This is the cold season in Nairobi and Kenya in general.The range varies between 13oC and 25oC. with the possibility of cloud cover and light rains. Kindly carry warm clothing to cope and keep checking online for weather updates.

The International Dialing Code for Kenya is + 254 and Nairobi area code is 20, followed by the number. Time Zone: Kenya Time Standard Time is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+3). You may purchase local SIM cards at the airport or in other stores at a cost of less than 1 USD.

11. Wireless Internet Connectivity


The wi-fi internet is complimentary and available within ILRI. In case of any problems to log in please feel free to ask for assistance.

12. Laptop


You can bring your own laptops with you so that you can access online training materials and software for the course. Also bring an adapter as indicated below and ensure that you carry your laptop as hand laugague during travel (flight) for security purposes.
